Thorne Community Wood is an area of former agricultural land which was purchased by Thorne Moorends Town Council in 1993 to create a community woodland. The final stage of the main tree planting was completed in the winter of 2001 but the wood needs as much, if not more, care at this stage of its life.
The woodland is managed by Friends of Thorne Community Wood, who are a group of volunteers who help maintain and develop the site. The Friends offer development through practical work and promotional activities.
